I'm starting up an IK RPG in a few weeks - the original notice is below. If you're interested, shoot me a message through one of the normal channels.
Logistics: we're looking at meeting once a month, probably at my place, but I'm open to suggestions (particularly if someone wants to offer up a more central location to everyone - that said, I've got space that can be blocked off from anyone under 5ft in height...). Play would likely be in 6-8 hour segments, but this also is up for debate. I'm open to blue-booking in between sessions as well. At this point, I've got a pretty good number of people who are in the "interested" category, but if you know someone who would be game, feel free to forward it on. Iron Kingdoms is a bit on the gritty side, so my preference is adults only.
I'm holding off on picking a campaign theme/title until I get an idea of the people playing and the characters (I've got about 15+ different ideas). I'm prone to story-centric stuff, but as former players will attest, I don't hurt for crunchiness (tends to adjust to the group). Couple of my favorites ideas currently include:
-Treasure Hunters for a noble house of Cygnar
-Privateers/Bandits operating out of the Five Fingers in the Cryx territories
-Assistants to a scholar at a Cygnaran or Khadoran University
-Scouts sent by Cygnar to monitor Skorne advances
-Contracted by merchants to cross the ocean
-Khadoran (regular or Umbrey or a mix) explorers of the northern region
-Religious scholars exploring the Protectorate of Menoth
-Llael resistance fighters
I threw together a few guidelines for character generation for those who like to get into the nitty gritty right off. i'll be making copies of some of the key materials for those without access and sending 'em out.
Base classes are as presented in the IK:CG
Character generation uses 28 points for point buy
The core druid is repaced with the variant from No Quarter
Social issues around classes will be enforced (known sorcerors will be treated as witches in Mennite and rural areas)
Non-IK-specific prestige classes will be allowed on GM approval (using the following basic guidelines):
-No planar/dimensional ties (e.g. shadow dancers, horizon walkers)
-No high fantasy (e.g. arcane trickster)
-No setting specific (e.g. red wizards)
-Euro & slavic fair only
IK-specific prestige classes are found in IK:CG, Monsternomicon and issues of No Quarter
Optional stat bonuses for humans are encouraged
Allowed races include:
-Human (Khard, Kossite, Ryn, Skiroy, Umbrean, Midlunder, Morridane, Thurian, Tordoran, Caspian/Sulese, Idrian, Scharde)
-Dwarf
-Goblin
-Iosan (elf)
-Nyss (elf)
-Ogrun
-Trollkin
-Skorne
Base Classess Allowed:
-Berserker (Barbarian)
-Scout (Ranger; modified for IK)
-Fighter
-Rogue
-Druid (modified for IK)
-War Bard (Bard)
-Cleric
-Monk (IK specific; more of a religious order than an oriental order)
-Paladin
-Sorceror (note the comments around sorcerors being viewed as witches will be enforced)
-Wizard
-Gun Mage
-Bodger (mechaniks)
-Arcane Mechanik
-Fell Caller (trollkin only)
I'm not ruling evil characters out right off the bat, but I am disccouraging it.
